Bienvenue! Welcome to our Grade 1 class website! Above, you will find drop down menus for our weekly "dictée" and the audio, the coloured word lists, the monthly newsletters, the monthly calendars, and the resource pages on different subjects areas. If you still need to fill out the Student Information Sheet that was sent home, you can find the tab above that will take you to the document. This can be downloaded and sent back to school.
Below you will find direct links to my contact info, the district's page, the BC curriculum, and the Simon Cunningham school page. Check below for pictures of the students' artwork that will be posted throughout the year for you to enjoy!
In September, we celebrated Dot Day--a day where we explore creativity and starting from one point and going out from there to create something fantastic! The students enjoyed the story "le point de départ" and using their imaginations to create something from a single dot!
The students learned about courage and perseverance last week during our discussions on Terry Fox and identified different ways that they can be perseverant and not give up when things become difficult. They enjoyed learning about Terry Fox's story (but were a bit sad that he died) and enjoyed connecting our learning on perseverance with Terry Fox and his Marathon of Hope.
We have been discussing Fall in class and the changes that Fall or Autumn brings. The students enjoyed doing the Falling Leaves art project below and choosing various fall colours to show the changes in the leaves and the beauty that those changes bring in the trees and leaves around us.
The students enjoyed discussing Thanksgiving, sharing what they were thankful for, and creating the following fun turkey drawing! To create the turkey, the students had to roll a number and choose one of 4 accessories to draw on their turkey. Each turkey turned out unique and very creative!
The students enjoyed making these funny Frankenstein faces as our craft on Halloween and each one made their Frankenstein very unique! To create the craft, they had to follow a variety of directions and steps, learned about size and working in the center, and used various shapes and lines to create the face and hair. After, they added their own finishing touches like stitches for the face, eyebrows, lashes, and/or bows. They had a blast and loved the final product!
The students learned a lot about Remembrance Day last week and learned about the significance of the poppy and what it represents. We did the beautiful poppy drawings above with pastels and used dark blue as a contrasting colour to the black, making the poppy bright and visible!
